How to Write a One-Paragraph Pitch for Your Business Idea

By the Glaral team · Published 19 September 2026 · 3 min read

Short answer

A good one-paragraph pitch answers four things: who has the problem, what the problem is, how you solve it, and why your way is better. Keep it under about 200 characters for a quick pitch, and use simple words.

Why a short pitch matters

People decide in seconds if they care. A short, clear pitch gets replies, votes and questions. A long, confusing one gets ignored.

Writing a short pitch also helps you think. If you cannot explain your idea simply, you may not understand it well enough yet.

The 4-part formula

  1. Who: the type of person with the problem.
  2. Problem: what is hard, slow or costly for them.
  3. Solution: what you offer, in plain words.
  4. Difference: why yours is better than what they use today.

Put it together: "For [who] who struggle with [problem], we offer [solution], which is [difference]."

A bad example

"We are building a revolutionary AI-powered platform that leverages synergies to disrupt the food space."

It sounds big, but you cannot tell who it is for or what it does.

A good example

"Office workers can list a spare home-cooked tiffin. Colleagues in the same building claim it for a small price. Better lunch, less waste."

You know the who, the problem and the solution in three short sentences.

Tips to make it better

Where to use your pitch

Use it in polls, group posts, messages, and on Glaral, where an idea pitch can be up to 220 characters. After you write it, run a poll and see how people react.

Before-and-after pitch examples

These pitches are made up to show the change.

Before: "An innovative platform for the education sector."

After: "Class 10 students get a 20-minute live doubt session every day with a topper from last year, for Rs 99 a month."

Before: "A smart solution for local shops."

After: "A WhatsApp ledger for neighbourhood shops that politely reminds customers to pay their dues."

Before: "A better way to travel."

After: "Book a verified local guide who posts a 30-second preview of their walking tour."

A pitch checklist

Pitching to customers vs partners

To a customer, talk about their problem and the result they get. To a partner or helper, add what you have done so far and what kind of help you need. Keep both short.

If you want a partner, say so plainly: "I am looking for someone who is good at [skill]." That makes it easy for the right person to raise a hand.
